With The Odyssey around the corner, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a resurgence of sword-and-sandal epics. Valeria Dryzhak’s Wardens captures that kind of mythic scale, but grounds it in a very earthy palette. The key color is the desaturated brown-orange of the human figure and stone giants, complemented by the blue sky and green landscape.

That color choice keeps the image from feeling too fantastical. The scene is huge—towering stone warriors, tiny shepherd, tiny sheep—but the palette makes it feel like it belongs to the natural world. The scale gives it the epic quality. The color keeps it believable.
