Shallow uses a split complementary harmony with muted blue in the water and sky, balanced by warm orange and yellow in the sunset. But everything is heavily desaturated and pulled together by the same color grade. Nothing feels like a separate element, even though the colors cross from cool to warm.

It's also great inspiration for a Photoshop composite because the things that make it work are exactly the things that make a great composite: surrealism, a strong concept, and a unified color grade. A woman meeting a giant fish on the beach is immediately strange, but everything else is treated so naturally that we accept it. Sometimes the best composites aren't complicated. They're just a simple idea executed convincingly.
